Cookies are small text files a website stores on your device. Most sites use them to remember things between pages (like what's in your basket), to count how many people have visited, or to help advertising follow you around the web.
We use the first two of those, in a limited way. We don't do the third.
This policy covers cookies and a closely related thing called local storage, which is how modern browsers do the same job in a slightly different way. For simplicity, we'll call both "cookies" below.
Here is everything this site stores on your device today, and what's coming when online ordering and accounts launch.
The site sets one essential item, and - only if you say yes in the cookie banner - Google Analytics cookies so we can see which pages get read.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
oak_farm_cart_v1 |
Essential | Remembers your basket between pages (local storage). Until online ordering launches the basket is a preview feature, but the memory works the same way. | Until you clear your browser data |
oak_consent |
Functional | Remembers your answer to the cookie banner so we don't ask again every visit (local storage) | 12 months, then we ask again |
_ga |
Analytics | Google Analytics - tells apart visitors so we can count how many people use the site. Only set if you accept analytics in the banner. | 2 years |
_ga_* |
Analytics | Google Analytics - keeps the state of your visit (which pages, in what order). Only set if you accept analytics in the banner. | 2 years |
No advertising cookies, no fingerprinting, and nothing loads until you've answered the banner. Decline and the site works exactly the same - we just can't see that you visited.
When checkout and the Oakleys account launch, the site will also need these. We'll update this page and the date at the top when they go live.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
oak_session |
Essential | Keeps you signed in to your Oakleys account across our group of sites, carries your basket into checkout, prevents form-spam | Session (gone when you close the browser) |
oak_csrf |
Essential | Security token to stop unauthorised form and checkout submissions | Session |
We use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages get read and where visitors come from, in aggregate. It's off until you opt in through the banner, GA4 does not log or store visitor IP addresses, and we don't use the data for advertising. You can read how Google handles the data in Google's privacy policy, or block Google Analytics in any browser with Google's opt-out add-on. We don't use Facebook Pixel or any advertising trackers, and we don't intend to.
A few features on the site are provided by third parties, and they set their own cookies under their own privacy policies.
| Service | Where | What for |
|---|---|---|
| Google Analytics | Every page, but only after you accept analytics in the cookie banner | Counting visits and seeing which pages get read. See section 2 for the cookies it sets. |
| Google Maps | Maps on the Visit Us, About, Tipi and individual event pages | Showing the map and route to the farm. The embedded map loads with the page, and Google may set its own cookies when it does - see Google's privacy policy. |
| YouTube | Homepage video player | Playing our farm vlogs. Nothing loads until you press play, and we use YouTube's no-cookie player (youtube-nocookie.com). Links out to our YouTube channel are just links - they set nothing here. |
| Stripe (from launch) | Checkout only, once online ordering goes live | Card payments and fraud prevention. Not loaded anywhere yet. |
We only load a third-party service on the page that needs it. Most pages of the site load none of them.
You have a few options:
The cookie banner appears on your first visit (and again after 12 months). You can change your answer at any time - press the button below, or use the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer of every page.
All modern browsers let you block or delete cookies. The links below take you to each browser's instructions.
Heads up: if you block site data entirely, the basket won't remember anything between pages, and once online ordering launches, sign-in and checkout won't work either. Everything optional can be turned off without breaking a thing.
If we change what cookies we use, we'll update this page and bump the date at the top. If the change affects anything you've consented to, we'll prompt you again in the banner.
For anything cookie-related, or to complain that we're using too many (we're not), email [email protected] or write to us at Oakleys Farm Ltd, Little Blakeley Lane, Dilhorne, Staffordshire ST10 2PT.
For broader privacy questions, see our privacy policy.
Luckily, the humans write it down: what's in season at the shop, who's just been born, what's on at the farm. No noise, no spam.
